Red wine is a type of wine made from dark-coloured (black) grape varieties. The actual colour of the wine can range from intense violet, typical of young wines, through to brick red for mature wines and brown for older red wines. The juice from most black grapes is actually greenish-white, and all the red colour comes from anthocyan pigments present in the skin of the grape. Much of the red-wine production process therefore involves the careful extraction of colour and flavour components from the grape skin.
The grape varieties and wine making techniques available for producers of red wine are too many to list, and increased exponentially by the option of blending varieties and taking advantage of cellaring in both oak, steel and bottle. As a result, red wines will vary greatly in terms of colour, aroma, body, length and strength, which is why people sometimes seem obsessed in their search for these wonderful drops. At Label Wines we will at all times have a red wine range that will cater to everything from the red wine novice to the seasoned connoisseur.
Big, gutsy red wines have long been the signature of the Australian wine industry, and our range would not be presentable without some great examples of this variety.
